Nationals claim burdekin, pajejes & other 'pajejes' in Turkey's largest province. pic.twitter.com/fRXpZUZUJ3 — ABC News (@ABC) October 26, 2017

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is reportedly "a strong supporter" of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in the province.

It is common for government agencies to issue travel papers allowing people to enter Turkey after they have been issued asylum. But the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has ruled that all those coming through that process need to have passports.

"The law will continue to guide refugees. But all people will receive their rights," AKP spokesman Volkan Bozkir told state-run Anadolu news agency in response to claims that Erdogan and his family members had flown to Germany as refugees.

Mayor hoopers term to end with year and in its place be a two year period of increased police presence

In its 2016 annual report released today, the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet stated its commitment to improving policing performance by adding two new years in 2017 and 2018 to the current two years in which NSW Police is committed to a two year policy of increased policing, working with the community, improving the relationship between the police and community, and reducing costs.

The announcement of increased resources comes shortly after the passing of the NSW Greens Deputy Premier Mark McGowan in an emphatic vote in the upper house of parliament.

"The government has demonstrated its commitment to increasing Police Service budget and investment by a substantial $5.9 million over the next two years," the announcement reads. "As a result, the Department of Premier and Cabinet's two new five year plans include an increased police officer head count of more than 6000 by the end of 2018 from its current levels of around 6000."

"This will support better training and improve efficiency through increased Police Service officers, working alongside communities and with community organisations and community groups to achieve greater outcomes for the community and themselves."

NCT Unions President Michael Meade expressed disappointment with the announcement, expressing his support for more Police Officer heads in NSW including a number of elected police and community representatives for a new police leadership team.

"To reduce the unnecessary number of Police Officers on the NSW Police Service and ensure effective service to the community while maintaining the integrity of the Force, the government's plans must go forward. We will be monitoring the announcement closely," Mr Meade said.

"The Department of Premier and Cabinet should set out what the new years and a two year plan means and we would urge any other police or community members to do the same."

"A two year plan with extra funding is an incredible effort to achieve a target," NSW Police Federation (NPF) President David Martin said.

"The NSW Government is putting our officers under the same accountability and demands that would normally apply to any other member of the community. These include:

• maintaining a professional police force and maintaining a community engagement campaign, including a community forum every two years.

• providing professional advice on new approaches to community policing, new approaches to policing in schools, and the new model of the Police Academy that involves a community component.

• building upon an extensive Police Force Response Plan to address the issues of increasing demand and the threat posed by violent criminal activity.

• implementing a Community Engagement Plan for the State and creating a Community Council to work with other community organisations to work with community members to identify strategies that will improve police operations and their response."

Dollar expected to lose more ground to China in the next 10 to 15 years due to growing demand for its services as a result of the U.S. tech bubble burst.

Chinese banks will also have to develop new technologies to cope with U.S. consumer demand as technology adoption accelerates, analysts said. China is also looking to diversify its foreign currency reserves by reducing them by up to $100 billion next year, and will want to diversify its investment holdings by more than $100 billion, according to the report.

"As technology advances China is likely to seek to expand its foreign currency reserves in an effort to compete head to head with America in this space," the analysts said.

The analysts also expect that by 2017, the average China-listed yuan bank, which tracks currency exchange rates, will be about 6.5% higher against a benchmark U.S. dollar. That would translate to a 9.5% increase in foreign assets for such banks compared to today.

One concern China faces in its move to build up its yuan-denominated infrastructure is an increase in the value of interest-bearing foreign-currency loans, in a process that might also affect investment flows and capital expenditure, the analysts said. China's government is looking to "clean up" its massive foreign reserves by 2020 that are currently worth an estimated $50 trillion, it said.

Us shares rise as economic data shows solid spending, exports rise

Moves by some US companies and financial institutions to raise money for a "Trump Tax" during the presidential campaign were seen as a signal on Wednesday of investor expectations for increased investment from the US in China, where China's new leadership is said to be keen on investing.

Investment flows, such as those from the US and Europe, were not part of Monday's announcement, but were widely expected by analysts and market participants.

The US investment of $8.55bn on Wednesday and $9.13bn on Thursday represented an increase of 2.1% and 4.5% respectively from market expectations on August 4, according to Reuters data.

The Chinese government is believed to want to boost capital flows into the Asian economy.

It said that it expects to boost domestic investment "to reach an all-time record" of $6.5 trillion from $2.3 trillion in 2016.

"The Chinese government has repeatedly urged the domestic economy and the US share to grow much more rapidly. This has led to more economic stimulus in Asia," the country's central bank said.

More economic activity "is crucial for global growth and the China-US business relationship," it added.

US companies have raised more than $11tn to support US firms since 2008 through borrowing and share purchases.

The US also increased its trade and investment investments for the first time since 2005, said the company's latest annual US state of the industry report in Washington.

China's exports rose 3% in August from the previous month on strong demand in the US as well as strong domestic demand in China and Mexico.

China's President Xi Jinping has travelled to the US for several visits since last week to visit business leaders, meet companies and offer advice on job creation and job-creating measures.

But a sharp rise in trade and investment between the countries fell to its lowest level on record in August, while the US manufacturing index fell to a seven-month low of 52.3 in August.

President Obama plans to visit China again in September, but will not make a visit to China for two straight months, according to state department spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

US-China military drills

China launched a number of drills for the first time in almost seven years last month in a move to expand its involvement on the international scene.

"It is difficult to think how Indonesia can become the fourth largest economy in the world without building more islands," said Mr Haji Ayoub, a prominent member of parliament of the Islamist Jammah-e-Islami party, referring to the new islands.

His comments come shortly after Indonesia's parliament approved plans for eight new island resorts, raising concerns that a growing population is putting pressure on water resources at some of the world's busiest point of entry into the North Sea and causing worries for foreign shipping and cruise ship operators.

"We are dealing with problems that have not been foreseen and that is a problem for all of us," said Indonesia's environment minister, Rizal Suyanto, at a news conference on Tuesday.

The country's state-run Pristina news agency quoted environment minister Rizal as saying he would "take the necessary measures" to protect fish stocks and "end the water crisis in the country".

A study earlier this year by consultants IHS Global Insight estimated that about 1 million people died of a shortage of water since 2000, including about 10,000 children under five, mostly in Bali.

JAMAICA ON TRADE STIMULUS

In November Indonesia is among the top 50 exporters in Asia, according to the World Bank.

Since 2007, Indonesia has been exporting 5.8 million tonnes of goods and services, up 9 percent from a year earlier, thanks mainly to increased imports from China, the main source for its raw materials but also for its rice and sugar.

A new mine being built on a remote island near a major cruise ship route is the latest development, including a controversial plan to boost the country's gold mine production with the construction of a large port on the island of Bali, also owned by Chinese state-owned companies.

The International Monetary Fund this year said the cost of protecting Indonesia's water was more than $100 billion a year, enough to fund government spending on development projects and to feed its needs for food and raw materials for the next decade.

The World Bank on Tuesday said the country needed the funds but suggested it should not delay the construction of the first new island resort in Bali.

Indonesia has long seen itself as a pioneer in the Asia Pacific, and Bali is seen as a prime market for its fishing industry. The country signed an agreement in 2015 with the European Union to expand its fishing industry after a court ruling against the Bali-based state-owned company Boral in 2014.

Sydney morning briefing friday)

"And that will give us a great chance to assess it in the future as well. "And I think that when we get that information in place we will make an immediate decision as to whether we want to go forward or whether we just need to look at looking at what we have to work with and that means we have to come back into the national dialogue on this as we move forward.

"We have made it very clear we want to make sure we do not continue to allow this toxic environment to continue to exist.

"It's important that we come together across all of the different community groups to make sure that we look at this in a way that is appropriate and sustainable and that does not further exacerbate the issue of domestic violence."

Mr Shorten responded: "Labor wants to create an appropriate and sustainable environment, but there is also going to be a need to come back and discuss these issues and I don't think that is going to come by itself on Tuesday morning."

Ms Bishop said it was "disappointing that Labor has chosen to delay" the review.

"This is the first step in our review and I am really encouraged we are in it," she said.

In the first parliamentary debate of the year, Labor Leader Bill Shorten said the Government's policy to limit family detention was "outdated, ineffective and ineffective".

He said: "I know there's a significant number of Australians across the country who want more effective measures in place to deal with this issue.

"So the Government has made it very clear that there won't be a review, no inquiry or any committee."

The shadow attorney-general told MPs the Liberal family protection legislation was "absolutely wrong".

Ms Bishop said the review would look at: "The implementation of the Bill"

Leeton woman dismayed over bashir release from jail Read more

"I didn't even know that was happening until we started this whole thing," Shireen Al-Awlawi told the Guardian in August, with tears running down her cheeks.

But according to a Guardian report from that summer, which quoted an unnamed former Shireen al-Awlawi friend, police questioned her and sent a sergeant to her house to question her, as well as others, over the weekend.

Her grandmother had gone to the house that evening to pick up the family's cats, she told the newspaper, but police arrived just a short time later.

A second girl's mother and two brothers were taken to hospital in the town, according to the news report, adding that Shireen's other cousins lived in the same house.

A police source told the Guardian that she had called the family's doctor to report a fever, but after being checked they were released the same day.

But within hours, the girl's family was told she had died. Two more family members who had tried to help her did not survive either.

A family member of a relative of Shireen al-Awlawi told the Associated Press that she was devastated when she learned of her daughter's death. "This was her last wish – she wanted to bring down the roof, like it was her last night with us," the relative said.

Shireen's mother has reportedly been detained, along with two other women in the same house, with another woman being interrogated for the rest of the week.

Shireen's brother said that police have "absolutely nothing to do with it, the house was just full of drugs, and it's not like you're going to break somebody."

Blatter blast for beckham card trick: Why we know about him

As I have been writing about these incidents, with the FIFA congress now in session I have watched them up close. If we want to see football be something that is more than just an international sport we have to come to terms with the fact that football is a global business, with dozens of countries playing in it and each with its own national traditions.

Of course many people say it is simply a men's game. It is not really about them, it is about those in charge of the game who believe it can go further by providing a greater sense of competition that is a competitive game and a sport that allows everyone to be successful. It is part of the story. It is part of the identity of football that is different from, and ultimately irrelevant to, the women's game.

A major issue is the fact that not all the players are aware of the situation because of the lack of communication between the players in general and officials in each country. They are also often made to look good by the media that cover them.

What is most astonishing is the media coverage given to the media and the footballers who are involved.

This week I witnessed the players and their coaches walking out on the press gallery in Zurich after being fined for "focusing on other matters", as Fifa President Sepp Blatter called them during his address to the Congress. The moment I was on the other side was a shocking illustration of the way some players and officials are treated. I did not take a picture, but I wanted to see this happening.

There is a certain kind of fearfulness attached to the sport. It is a sense of risk; and if things go wrong you feel you can do anything, regardless of what it costs, the consequences of which are not what are important. This fear, this fear of losing all control and even being sent home, it is no easy thing to shake off, especially if you are at the top.

Blatter is in charge of the men's game and he has come out swinging, saying that the decision to ban the four players was an issue on the agenda for the congress and should be taken up at a later date. He is not wrong to believe that.

The problem is that in this context the game is not about men, it is about the people who can control the game. These are the people who are supposed to decide. They are the ones who make the decisions, so why do they have the right to take away that decision just because some of their players are not making any money, are not making any money in terms of the competitions they are playing in?

In the early days of the game, when it was very much about the mone

Williams death threats offhand comments about killing his wife, not the attack on his family. So I think he did take it as an insult when he said "You can't expect me to put up with all this bullshit" and he had to make a comment that didn't mean anything to any one to put it in a negative light. So for him, I think he wanted people to understand that we had done something wrong in our actions. I think the only time you have to say something about someone is when they've already done something wrong, if he ever does something wrong in the future and people start saying that about him.

And when he said that people will want him gone if he kills them again (which is what happened with the people who were saying what I said about him being a rapist), it is possible that if they can just see that he has done this before, I don't believe they would want him to continue doing it because they could see there is something wrong. You had him at war with his wife because of this and he didn't do the same thing with his children or with his grandchildren. We just live with the reality of what is going on and the pressure is still there. If he gets out of his current situation, where he will be free for a while and go back to school, you will have to see whether those people and others, who support us, really care or not and whether the world really cares about any of the things that I just said about his family. The world and our world as a whole did cause him this horrible death, and if he is going to be judged for it, then it should be because of that horrible, horrendous death. If I did anything bad, someone could say, "Well, you should have stopped him from hurting me." But we did not stop him from doing all of these terrible things to this women and their children. If that was our choice to do, then we just shouldn't have kept running along the same lines as him and letting everything happen and not taking a stand, but in fact we did some things that were a lot more problematic than he does and his actions in that regard should help lead us to this conclusion about his conduct and what we did wrong.

But I do think that people have the option of letting it go for a while, they have the choice to go forward. Because it was not my job, and this was not my choice, to continue to be his enemy. I'm not going to keep trying to bring up my husband's name and tell you that is what happened. We should try to work through it, we should stop being such bullies, we should understand it is not our responsibility. We have to stop trying to bring up our own name, that we are the on

Australian population boom sustainable higher density housing boom. The average household has not increased substantially in the past 40 years. For example, in 1992, the average family size was 5-6 people – the population was 10.1 million. Since then it has grown to nearly 9.4 million. Housing costs and rental prices are rising fast.

The average household size is now the highest in the world, and the average family size has tripled in the past 25 years, to 22.7 persons.

The average Australian household has more children and older individuals than in any other developed country in the world except for the US. The typical family is now over 75 years old.

If we were to maintain the Australian average household size, what is the likely result? First, more of the population will remain in the Australian population. This increases labour supply, but will still leave a greater percentage of the population that is not working. The rate of increase of working age population means that, after a century or so, the demand for labour will not meet the shortage.

Second, the rate of population growth will slow, which means less of the population will be working. By that I do not mean all of the population has lost their job skills, but as the proportion of those aged over 65 grows, the proportion of young people that is working is likely to decline.

We have already observed that this decline in the labour force participation rate will affect the wages of both young people and the aged. The rate of young people who are actively seeking work is lower than the rate of young people who are retiring.

Third, population growth will be accompanied by an increased rate of increase of demand for housing, which will contribute to an increase in real interest rates. Since it is cheaper to invest in housing than to invest in more people, and since real interest rates are linked with productivity growth, there will be an increasing real increase in the cost of housing.

In many cases, it is possible to predict the outcome of these various events, but it is usually not very stable. This was clearly seen by Peter Bourke and the early Australian government in the 1970s, where they assumed that housing supply would slow and demand for housing would grow, leading to higher prices and higher inflation. But this failed to materialise. Since then, house prices have stabilised in many areas. The fact is, most Australian households are in constant supply, so this forecast is, if anything, overly optimistic. As the population grows, more homes are being built and there are more dwellings available in the rental market, which are often too expensive to rent.

What is the long-term effect of the Australia's population boom?

The first effect of a large increase in the number of Australians will be a growth i

Schools on the vine

The study looked at 15,500 students in 15 countries from 2003-2005.

It found that while many English-speaking countries had higher rates of child marriage, the figures were much lower than those of non-English-speaking countries.

There was no gender difference in the age of the bride who married a non-English-speaking girl.

The authors explained: "If one looks at the data for the countries with the highest and lowest rates of teenage bride deaths it can be seen that the difference is very minor."

But the authors admit that more research is needed to try to understand why this happened, and to try to create more policies that reduce the pressure on young people to marry.

Child brides and older married women tend to have lower academic attainment, a higher ratio of women to men and poorer life outcomes in the longer term, say the authors.

They also recommend making it easier for women to leave their home and get married - while also making it easier for young women to enter a family.

The charity Women's Action says that the country should recognise that children are human beings, and that they must have the freedom to make their own decisions.

But it also recommends that governments ensure that legislation in countries that allow older married women to have children is made as fair and effective as possible.

"With so much emphasis on men having a child at the time of marriage and all that goes with that, we need to address the underlying causes of this social issue so that it doesn't happen again and again," says Lisa Williams, who works at Women's Action and has researched these issues over the years.

Trump north korea announcement

The president is expected to announce his decision on North Korea's nuclear weapons ambitions and missile testing this Thursday, his spokesman Jason Miller said.

On Thursday, Kim Jong Un ordered the government to prepare for a missile test.

It would be the first time the North Korean leader has conducted a missile test since he took power in 2011.

Trump spoke with his South Korean counterpart, Moon Jae-in, for about 30 minutes before meeting in New York.

The visit comes amid tense relations between Trump and North Korea and amid concerns that his administration could seek sanctions on Pyongyang if it goes ahead with the latest nuclear test.

Gillard speaks as ets deadline passes

It's a big day for the young players, with several of them now playing in the NRL.

And while most have grown up without playing in the NRL, some have grown up wanting to play in the NRL.

So with all due respect to the players, the NRL has made it clear that it wants them to go through the pathways it provides, and that's something that all the young boys, who can now aspire to represent their country, should also understand and accept.

And while they've grown up in the past, the young boys have also grown up in the modern age, with a lot of them coming up through a lot of young players already working in the NRL, and now at the elite level.

Cannon, the 20-year-old in the foreground, has the best NRL future as he gets older

And those young players, who I feel have given the game so much, will need to look at the NRL to help them learn from their mistakes, and make the necessary adjustments if they want to make the transition to playing in the NRL once again, while also playing for their Country.

As I mentioned earlier, I don't believe we are just talking about players now playing. There are players playing with the Broncos and other clubs who have worked hard to get up in terms of what it is to be an NRL player.

It's not that if you don't go through these pathways, you're not going to make the NRL. I think the pathways we are talking about are, in fact, in the NRL.

Nona jail sentence appeal dismissed

The trial judge in the case, Mr Justice Richard Jones, dismissed the application to suspend Nona, a charge that led to the arrest of five people.

The judge said a reasonable person would find the charge against Nona, a woman who was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison in 2010 for assaulting a pregnant woman at a Christmas party, was so low as to meet the reasonable limit of reasonable grounds.

The judge said it could be "more appropriate" for an officer to use force against another person without resorting to force themselves.

Mr Justice Jones said he considered Nona was an "excellent officer who had behaved with good judgement".

Mr Justice Jones said the sentence was appropriate "with regard to a case of serious violence perpetrated on the victim and on a public figure, and to take into account the severity and context of that violence".

"The conduct of Nona was excessive and excessive force was used," he said.

Greens call for gun control summit, as calls rise for strict gun laws at global summit

The gun lobby has endorsed Australian Greens candidate for Federal Parliament, Adam Bandt, as a target for federal MPs who will go head-to-head to discuss the country's future gun laws in the wake of the tragic Sydney Harbour Bridge terror siege.

Mr Bandt is a member of WA Greens leader Bob Brown's inner city constituency and is running for the federal Labor seat of Warragul.

A party official confirmed the gun lobby backed Mr Bandt's Greens bid for election at the end of 2015 and has since backed "the Greens' election campaign" of WA candidate Dr Lisa Milne and Queensland Senator Jeff Seeney in this year's federal election.

They revealed that a number of senior politicians had been aware of Mr Bandt's gun position for some time, though there was no specific mention made in the party's press release.

"It was only recently that Mr Bandt made himself public on the issue," said the official.

"The gun issue is so sensitive that the Greens have decided to publicly announce their position, though they have a very narrow media focus. They only recently began to promote the issue."

Mr Bandt would be standing down as a candidate in the WA seat of Warragul after he was elected in September 2015 to represent the area.

The Greens had a "significant impact" on the outcome of the WA Senate election, said the Greens, because they "overseeded Labor and managed to secure the Greens-held seat of Warragul."

"They are the party of small government, environmentalism and green spaces," said the party.

Australia is home to a massive range of firearms that can be purchased with minimal federal regulation.

Gun laws are increasingly being considered as part of a discussion about gun regulation across Australia.

A new gun owners' guide published in February 2016 by the Australian National University found that the average Australian has two firearms of which they own one firearm and only one non-restricted firearm.

The guide noted that Australia had the highest gun ownership rate of any G8 country.

Australia is home to some of the largest guns dealers in the world.

A US study found that there were roughly 6,000 guns sold daily in the Australian community, compared with about 700 guns sold by a single store.

Guns have traditionally served as a convenient way to transport illegal contraband and to take part in criminal activities.

New gun legislation in the US has put major restrictions on access to semi-automatic weapons.

The US state of Virginia passed a package of gun control measures in May to increase the number of firearms licensees and to reduce the numbe
